Sermon notes

We work in a wounded world and there is often a strain between management and labor.

Colossians 3:22-4:1

Ephesians 6:5-9

To employees

Employees, be wholehearted in your work.

If you would work as if you are serving the Lord, you would be freed from both overwork and underwork.

When you grasp work as a way to please the Lord, it has huge implications:

  • You will show respect to those over you and will work in the fear of the Lord.
  • You will work with a sincerity of heart.
  • You will work hard at all times, not only to win your employer’s favor or just when their eye is on you.
  • You will view all good work as meaningful and spiritual.
  • You will view work as a way to serve and bless others.

To employers:

Employers conduct yourself as if you are a fellow slave.

You are in a position of leadership for the sake of those you’re leading, not the other way around.

Colossians 3:23

Working as if for the Lord enables you to avoid the work beneath the work that is so physically and emotionally exhausting.

Working as if for the Lord will enable you to work better and rest better.

  • Sabbath is a declaration of our freedom.
  • Sabbath is also an act of trust.

Matthew 11:28-30
