The Darkness of Depression

The Darkness of Depression

Sermon notes

Proverbs 27:7 (ERV)
When you are full, you will not even eat honey. When you are hungry, even something bitter tastes sweet.

1 Kings 19

If you are in the wilderness of depression and you feel like there’s no way out, please read these 3 truths:

  • The enemy is making you promises that he can’t keep.
  • Ending your life does not end the pain, it exponentially multiplies it.
  • You may feel like no one understands, but Jesus does.

If you’re wandering in the wilderness of depression…

  • Speak your pain to God.
  • Remember the provision given by God.
  • Listen to your body that was created by God.

Counselors will tell us that we make our most destructive decisions we are one or more of these: HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired)

If you’re crawling in the Cave of Depression…

  • Think on true thoughts.
    • 5 false thoughts people who are depressed may deal with:
      False Extremes
      False Filter
      False Mind Reading
      False Fortune Telling
      False Lense
  • Look for God in the right places
    • God is just as present in your struggle as he is in your success.
