John 6:26-31

The Israelite food story is the story of manna found in Exodus 16. The manna principle was: one day at a time.

John 6:32–43

John 6:49-51

“God made us, invented us as a man invents a machine, a car’s made to run on petrol, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human race to run on himself. He himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other.” C.S. Lewis

We settle for crumbs instead of the fulfilling bread of life Jesus wants to offer:

  • We settle for the crumbs of immediate satisfaction or temporary comfort.
Could it be in the meeting of all of our current desires, it explains why we are miserable in spite of the fact that most of them have been met because it’s actually deeper desires we have been neglecting?
Trying to meet an eternal need with a temporary good won’t satisfy. Not only do we make idols out of dumb things, we make idols out of good things.
“You were born not to eradicate your desires, but to reroute them and have them fulfilled in Jesus. Friends, do not settle for anything less.”
  • We settle for the crumbs of physical healing.
  • We settle for the crumbs of political freedom.
    John 6:35
  • We settle for the crumbs of poor substitutes.
    John 6:50-54
