Sermon notes
What causes resentment?
1. YOU EXPERIENCE HURT
2. YOU MAKE COMPARISONS
- Comparing leads you to covet: “I Want Yours”
- Comparing leads you to envy: “I Want the Same”
Proverbs 14:30 says, “A heart at peace gives life to the body but envy rots the bones.” - Comparing leads you to Jealousy: “I Want Mine”
3. YOU SEE INJUSTICE
The effects of resentment are destructive.
Hebrews 12:15: “See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
Resentment can lead you to justify unhealthy behaviors in the present because of your wounds from the past.
Resentment also does spiritual damage.
The solution to resentment is to release and forgive.
There is only one way to kill the root of resentment: it’s forgiveness.
